What is INTERBIKE?

For years I have heard of this magical event in Vegas where every brand of Bike you could imagine is in one huge conference center. Well this was much more than I had imagined. Here is my experience.
The 5 day event in Las Vegas Nevada is the biggest Bike event in the country. Every aspect of biking is represented Road, Mountain, BMX, Cyclecross, Beach bikes, etc.

The first two days are in boulder city Nevada near Lake Mead. This is a nice area which allows people the opportunity to demo mountain bikes on some great single track as well as take road bikes on some great scenic rides. Location is fabulous right on Lake Mead and near the Hoover Dam. It was a bit dusty but the temperatures remained cool throughout the demo event. While at the demo I was able to ride some incredible bikes. website

ARGON:
One in particular was the ARGON 18 E112 TT bike. Wow what a fun bike. It had great stability and was very fast and lightweight. For me this was a new experience getting to ride a very high end TT bike. I have been passed by these types of bikes in events but now having ridden a bike like this I can see clearly the great advantage of getting into the aero position on a serious TT bike.
I wish I would have planned better to ride more bikes and spend more time in the saddle. website

PROLOGO:
Talking about Saddles – PROLOGO makes the coolest saddle that I have seen. It came out a few years ago and is called the CHOICE MAX. It has some great vents in the nose of the saddle and is very comfortable for 50+ mile rides. If you want to you can change out the density of the cushioning and select different shapes and styles.
So all in all I thoroughly enjoyed the demo days available.
The next three days at the show are at the Sands convention center. There is a lot to see and so many cool new things to check out. Here is a list of a few of the things that really caught my attention. website

RAW REVOLUTION:
I have been a big fan of these guys for years. This was the first time RAW REV had a booth at Interbike. I love eating them before, during, and after running, biking, etc. They don’t freeze and they taste great and they are very healthy. All raw, organic, vegan, gluten free. Don’t be afraid to order a bunch of them direct because they have a year shelf life. These are very high in quality and also digest very well on consumption. I would challenge anyone to eat one every day for a week and see how they feel. If you have not tried the bars you really should and they have some nut free flavors coming soon. I have tried about everything out there that is a bar and these are the best. During the day I tend to have a time at about 10 am and 3pm where I get a little hungry, especially when I am training hard, and these are the perfect snack item for those times. website

SWIFTWICK:
The are an incredible sock company that made their debut at the show. They have created a fantastic compression sock that is made in the USA. If you want a very high quality compression sock with a fair price check these out. They have some nice different lengths in their socks. Not to mention that they have really cool arm and hand warmers. website

KINETIC:
The KINETIC rock and roll was very cool. The Rock and Roll is a fabulous device. It allows you to take realism and your workout to a whole new level with the only trainer that delivers natural side-to-side motion. This truly provided a very realistic workout while still on the trainer. I was able to try this at a booth that was shared with CONTOUR electric stimulus device. website

CONTOUR:
I have had back problems for many years from an active lifestyle of biking, running, snowboarding , wakeboarding, and skateboarding. The first day they offered to let me try it so we placed the sticky pads (electrodes) on my lower back. After a 30 minute treatment my back felt great. I came back the next morning to try it again, so we placed it on my quads and my back again. The device is a little bigger than a first generation IPOD and is powered by 4 AAA batteries. The device has a variety of settings which are as follows: Resistance, Strength, Explosive strength, Active recovery and Potentiation. Each of the settings have different durations and power levels. During a session you can dial the power up or down to make the intensity of the electric pulses fit your comfort level. This device is amazing.
I have used so many things to try and find relief for my back pain without much success. As athletes we understand that one big thing that helps strengthen backs is doing exercises to strengthen your core, however, I am unable to do certain sit ups because of the added strain on my back. So for the last few months I have used the CONTOUR on my abs. A few weeks ago my wife said “ Your abs look great!” followed that up with, “ This is the best they have ever looked”, and we have been married for 14 years. I use this machine as often as I can, which works out to be about 5 times per week. I really enjoy putting it on while watching a movie at home or while I am working on emails etc. I have shared it with families and friends and they have all found relief from back and neck pain. The CONTOUR was originally just an ab device but this can be used safely on most large muscle groups. So don’t let all the focus on abs distract you from the real value of this full body treatment device. This certainly was the most meaningful thing that I brought home from Interbike.
The Kelly Benefits Criteriom team is sponsored by contour and they have found many benefits from warming up with the CONTOUR before events and using it for recovery. The National Crit finals were at Mandalay bay and the CONTOUR team took second place over all. website

SKINS:
When it comes to compression tights I love SKINS. They let me try a pair and these are fantastic for running. These are the only tights that I have had that are comfortable enough to wear during and after a workout. I don’t feel like I need to take them off. They are also great after a big event to put on if I am getting into a car or on an airplane. The material breathes so well that they can be worn in warmer temperatures comfortably. website

Xtreme sports ID:
This is a great concept. It is a wrist band that has a phone number and a code, then you set up emergency contact information and identification data. I always throw it on when I am headed out for training. There was a lady running near my neighborhood who was hit by a car and had short term memory loss and nobody knew who she was for 2 hours. This is my favorite form of identification. website

If you ever get the opportunity to go to Interbike, I recommend going. You will not regret it. I hope to see you there this year.
