Great half marathon. The course, the weather, the good organization made the event very enjoyable.
The pick up spot in the morning was right on Soda row in the Daybreak area. The buses took us up Rose canyon which was very nice and not well traveled. This was my first time ever this far south-west on this side of the Salt Lake Valley.
The start was smooth with about 300 participants the group spread out pretty quickly. The first few miles were beautiful as the sun came up on the east side over the Wasatch mountains. Running into the rising sun was absolutely gorgeous. Winding down this canyon was a blast.
At about mile 5 the course heads north and then up an incline west for 2 miles. This uphill stretch is a wake up challenge in the middle of the event. Then it joins into the section of the bike course from the Daybreak triathlon. From the 9th mile it is just a cruiser all the way back into Daybreak. The finish line was well shaded and very nice. The water aid stations were all well managed and the volunteers very friendly and helpful.
This inagural event will surely become a classic. The t-shirt has a great logo on it that says in the shape of a shoe "only half crazy". The USTRISPORTS group has put together another exceptional event that is close to home base. I was able to head home and catch my sons football game at 10am.
